Event Information

Welcome to the Bay of Plenty Open 2026, hosted and organised by The Padel Club NZ in Papamoa, Tauranga. This is a club-run event sanctioned by Padel New Zealand.

The Bay of Plenty Open is a Tier 2 sanctioned tournament, meaning official Padel New Zealand Tier 2 ranking points will be awarded in accordance with Padel New Zealand guidelines and ranking point systems.

Registration

·       Entry Fee: $80 per player + Humanitix booking fee

·       Entries Close: Saturday 24th January at 9:00pm, unless sold out earlier

·       Capacity: Maximum of 128 players / 64 teams

·       Divisions:

o   Men’s Doubles A & B Grade

o   Women’s Doubles A & B Grade

Important:
Spaces are limited and only confirmed once both partners have completed registration. Please coordinate with your partner and register together. If one partner registers and the event sells out before the second entry is completed, the team will be placed on the waitlist.


Tournament Format

Three-day event: Friday 6th, Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th February 2026 (Waitangi Weekend)


·       Friday: Mid Morning to Late

Women’s A & B Grade – Pool games
Men’s B Grade – Pool games


·       Saturday: All Day

Men’s A &  B Grade – Pool games
Women’s A & B Grade – Knockouts, finals & medal ceremony


·       Sunday: All Day

Men’s A & B Grade– Knockouts, finals & medal ceremony

The medal ceremony for the Women’s A & B Grade will take place following completion of all matches on Saturday 7th tentatively scheduled for afternoon / early evening.

The medal ceremony for the Men’s A & B Grade will take place following completion of all matches on Sunday 8th tentatively scheduled for afternoon / early evening.

PLEASE NOTE THESE TIMES AND SCHEDULE ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE DEPENDING ON REGISTRATION NUMBERS


Categories

·       A Grade Men – up to 24 teams

·       B Grade Men – up to 16 teams

·       A Grade Women – up to 12 teams

·       B Grade Women – up to 12 teams


Final numbers may vary depending on registrations.

Maximum across all grades: 128 players / 64 teams.


Match Format

·       Pool play followed by knockouts

·       Two sets for pool matches and round of 16 (where applicable) and quarterfinals (tie-break if 1–1)

·       Three sets for finals rounds (semifinals & finals)

·       Golden point (no deuce)

·       Players self-referee

·       Players must call the score clearly so officials and spectators can follow

·       Matches played in accordance with the Padel New Zealand Sanctioned Competition Framework and Standards & Formats, and the Padel New Zealand Rules of Padel

Note: Match formats may vary slightly between grades depending on total entries. Full match format details will be provided prior to and during the tournament.


Schedule & Draws

·       Draws will be completed by The Padel Club NZ

·       To be released by Wednesday 4th February at 9:00pm

·       Please do not wait for draws to book travel. Please see tournament schedule for which days you are required to attend.

·       The tournament officially starts Friday 6th February at 10:00am


Player Licence

A Padel New Zealand Player Licence is required for all sanctioned events.

·       Players are encouraged to purchase their licence when registering for the tournament

·       Licences must be purchased by the close of registrations

·       Licence fee: $25 per annum for the financial year
(1 July 2025 – 30 June 2026; credit card fees apply; no refunds)

·       Licences are required under international padel standards and help Padel New Zealand maintain accurate records of participation, skill levels, and ranking points

Ranking Points

This is a Padel New Zealand sanctioned Tier 2 event, and official national ranking points will be awarded.

·       Points are allocated based on match results

·       Rankings are updated 7–10 days after each event

·       Full details on Tier 2 ranking calculations are available on the Padel New Zealand website
